Living as an unpaid carer in Cwm Taf Morgannwg

A person is a carer if they look after family, partners or friends in need of help because they are ill, frail or have a disability.

There is no ‘typical carer’. In reality, carers can include young people; young adults, parents, working age adults or older people.

Being an unpaid carer can be challenging. That’s why it’s important to feel listened to and understood, and have access to up-to-date information, advice and services such as support groups.

Below you can find information and experiences that we hope will help carers.

We also want to work with carers to improve support. On this page we have also listed various activities that we hope carers will get involved with.

Hearing the voices and experiences of carers

Song written with carers

Below we have included ‘Enough’, a powerful song written with carers at one of our hack-a-thons ran in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.

These experiences have fed into important pieces of work, including our Population Needs Assessment and Regional Area Plan, that outline actions that will be taken to support carers living in our region.

The song was played at our Hear Our Voices showcase to people with lived experiences and professionals working in health and social care.

More recently, the song was broadcast as part of Lleswyl Festival. Thank you to Daring to Dream for supporting the filming of this song.

Unpaid carers, Kay and Ceri spoke to us about their experiences. Listen here.

We've put together a collection of experiences from unpaid carers, and projects supporting carers. Read more below.
