It's important people receive the right services, at the right time, and in the right place. To do this, we must ensure funding is directed to meet the needs of our communities.
What does the Regional Commissioning Unit do?
The Regional Commissioning Unit is responsible for managing and coordinating a range of Welsh Government funding that is directed through the Regional Partnership Board.
This funding is very important as it helps to ensure the right services and support is available for people living in Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil.
The funding includes the Regional Integration Fund.
The Regional Commissioning Unit works with a range of partners including Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, Bridgend County Borough Council, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, the third sector, housing and education.
How is health and social care funding managed and coordinated?
The Regional Commissioning Unit focuses on coordinating regional funding streams such as the Regional Integration Fund.
The team supports the Regional Partnership Board to meet priorities identified in our area plan.
The purpose of us working together as a region means we can develop better partnerships by learning from one another, working together to improve health and social care services, and identifying how best to support and serve people who live in the region.
For example, a project that works well in Rhondda Cynon Taf, could also work well in Bridgend and Merthyr Tydfil, so could be created as a regional service across all three areas.
An example of this could be the CTM Regional Self-Isolation Helpline that was set up to support with the COVID-19 pandemic.
What about local and national funding streams?
We understand that local communities each have their individual needs also.
Ensuring local people receive the services and support they need.
County Borough Councils like Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf or Merthyr Tydfil, or County Voluntary Councils like VAMT, BAVO or Interlink may co-ordinate and manage specific grants for services that meet the needs of their local communities.
Funding for national services such as the NHS or education may be managed and coordinated directly by Welsh Government.
It’s important everyone works together to benefit communities in the best possible way.
Areas of Work
The Regional Commissioning Unit focuses on seven different priority areas.
This includes services for learning disabilities, mental health, physical disabilities, autism, older people, young people and children and unpaid carers.
